In some neglected communities, even the most basic medical information and resources are out of reach. When we first began working with Francis Otieno, a health worker at a school in the Mathare slum of Nairobi, some 80% of the students at his school were afflicted with a fungal skin infection. Luckily, the infection has an easy treatment. We taught Francis how to recognize symptoms, diagnose the infection, and implement treatment protocols. Now, a year and a half later, Francis' school has a skin infection rate that is closer to 15%.
Francis is just one example of a community health worker who, after training with One Good Turn, is now improving the health of his community. One Good Turn is dedicated to partnering with local health workers to provide practical medical education and culturally sensitive clinical care. Through education, we build sustainable pathways to better health for communities worldwide.
