A Big Idea for Global School Health
The idea is simple: educate the educators.
One Good Turn does not create or operate school health programs. Governments, schools, educators, and local communities do that themselves. We provide the training, health information, and educational tools they need to build programs that work in their own schools and communities.
As One Good Turn founder and physician Dr. Ann Messer puts it, SHARE is “an educational program that allows teachers to start their own school health programs.”
Our pilots, including in Kenya, have proven that equipping teachers with health education and tools leads to healthier students, staff, and communities. Health-related absenteeism has dropped 17% from baseline and 94% of teachers report feeling confident addressing student health concerns. To date, 675 teachers have completed our training, bringing knowledge and educational tools to over 66,000 students across 172 schools.
Now, we are poised to take it around the globe, with early pilots being explored in India, Mexico, and Namibia.
